Privacy policy

This site belongs to Sloane Kerrigan and is run by her publisher, Hollow Tide Press, in Quebec, Canada. This page says what personal information is collected here, why, who handles it, and how to have it corrected or deleted. The short version: if you join the mailing list I keep your email address so I can send you the emails you asked for, and I do not sell it, rent it or share it with anyone for their own use.

Who is responsible

Hollow Tide Press is responsible for the personal information collected through this site, and is the person in charge of the protection of personal information under Quebec law. Write to hello@sloanekerrigan.com, or to Hollow Tide Press, CP 89032 STN Saint-Émile, Quebec, Quebec G3E 1S9, Canada.

What is collected, and why

  • If you join the mailing list: your email address, a first name if you choose to give one, the date and the page or promotion you signed up from, and the country your sign-up came from. It is used to send you the free book you asked for, and after that an occasional email when a new book is out or when there is something worth your time. Every sign-up form says this before you press the button, and that consent is the basis for holding your address.
  • If you email me: your address and whatever you wrote, kept so I can answer.
  • If you just read the site: the hosting company keeps ordinary server logs (IP address, browser, pages requested) for security and to keep the site running. See the cookie notice for what cookies are set and to change your choices.

I do not collect payment details. Books are sold by Amazon, on Amazon, under Amazon’s own privacy policy.

Who handles it for me

  • EmailOctopus (Three Hearts Digital Ltd, United Kingdom) stores the mailing list and sends the emails. It records whether an email was opened and which links were clicked, so I can tell what readers want more of.
  • BookFunnel (BookFunnel LLC, United States) delivers the free book and passes your email address to the mailing list when you have agreed to join it.
  • Hostinger hosts this site and the hello@ mailbox.

These companies process the information on my behalf and under their own security and privacy terms. Using them means your information is stored and processed outside Quebec, including in the United Kingdom, the European Union and the United States.

How long it is kept

Your address stays on the list until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete it. Addresses that have not opened an email in a long time may be removed. Email correspondence is kept only as long as it is useful for answering you.

Your choices and your rights

  • Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link at the bottom. It works immediately.
  • You can ask what information I hold about you, have it corrected, have it deleted, or withdraw your consent at any time, by writing to hello@sloanekerrigan.com. I answer within thirty days.
  • If you live in Quebec you can complain to the Commission d’accès à l’information. Elsewhere in Canada, to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner. In the United Kingdom or the European Union, to your data protection authority.

Children

These are books for adults and the mailing list is for adults. I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under sixteen.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version goes on this page with a new date at the top.
