Sloane Kerrigan writes wilderness thrillers about ordinary people who are a long way from help.

The Wild Places books begin where the road ends: a real place, a small circle of strangers, and a situation a helicopter cannot fix today. She reads the incident reports, the coroners’ findings and the search-and-rescue procedures before she writes a word of the story, because in this kind of book one wrong detail costs a reader’s trust, and she would rather be caught being careful than caught being clever.

When she isn’t writing, she’s traveling. She always comes back to Quebec City, which is home and the city she loves best.
